Minter Dialogue with Phil Hopley
Dr Phil Hopley is an MD, psychiatrist, revered coach, speaker, and wellbeing and performance expert. In his youth, he is Wasp’s legend, having been capped 57 times and scored 113 points for famed Wasp rugby club. He founded and runs Cognacity, a leading health and performance consultancy, based in London. In this conversation, we discuss the values and role of rugby in his life, the issues of mental health for high performance athletes — and in parallel top executives, how to build resilience and confidence and the while accepting vulnerability. We also look at the issues of loneliness today, why to focus on one’s own values and find meaning.

Music credit: The jingle at the beginning of the show is courtesy of my friend, Pierre Journel, author of the Guitar Channel. And, the new sign-off music is “A Convinced Man,” a song I co-wrote and recorded with Stephanie Singer back in the late 1980s (please excuse the quality of the sound!).
