Back in January 2007, I wrote about my absolute favourite cheese, Cornish Yarg (write up from the Cornish producer, Lynher Dairies). On a recent trip to my favourite fromage shop in London: La Fromagerie on Moxon Street, I picked up this beautiful specimen (pictured). As you can see, the shape of the nettles that are wrapped about this cheese, is very visible and makes for a lovely pattern. Design joins taste to make this spectacular cheese, whose name, Yarg, is derived by spelling the originators’ name (Gray) backwards.
The cheese room at La Fromagerie is delightful and I picked up a couple of other great cheeses this visit: the award winning Tunworth unpasteurized Soft Cheese “Camembert” from Hampshire as well as the unpasteurized Stichelton Stilton from Nottinghamshire. Both are delights in their category.
LA FROMAGERIE 2-6 Moxon Street London W1U 4EW — Nearest tube station is winding your way down on Baker Street. There is a second La Fromagerie store at 30 Highbury Park London N5 2AA.
Miam…must get you to bring me some back next time you go to London.
